i forgot which thread said this but if u wanna have some fun try to get into a group with a farmbot (find them usually at droks intl. d 1), then when they start putting up their enchantments put on vital blessing on them (While you maintain this Enchantment, target ally has +40...168 maximum Health.) it screws up there 55hp and they die.

but i gotta admit farmbots saved me a lot of gold cause they powerlevel u for free.
so.. how exactly do you team up with a bot? >.<

id like ot try this with symbiosis, should give them around 500 health

Yep, seen this kind of thing before, you only have to go to their new hideout in Droknar's Forge to find the rest of them. They used to spend all day running out of Augury and farming Griffons, always the same characters with remarkably similar names and features.

personally i wish anet would do something to stop overlaying programs so bots can't run. The ebay community running bots is why we have one of the worst economies. Don't nerf the area drok is my 55 farming home and very challenging when you take on fierce guile wise giants trolls and grawl.
Do something to make it where a bot can't do it but a human can.

But yes something Has to Be Done

I've been seeing more and more bots lately. If you're that interested in seeing bots go to droks int 1 you will love it because theres not one monk thats not a Mo/w.
Back to the point. It seems to me that they are bots. Seeing as the person has at least 4 accounts not including the one hes running them with he must be selling gold or items for money. There would be no other reason to have that many accounts other than to get your money back out of it.

yea, I've been noticing ALOT of more bots recently, they are all Mo/W of course, and something I also noticed once is that they have weird similar names like Ting Ting, and maybe bling, or tin tin, or something odd. Really kind of depressing that a game I once enjoyed is now over-populated with these things. I've tried blocking them at the entrance to talus chute as well, because it looks like a monk marathon going outside. I've also noticed that some are in guilds, and hearing them try to sell things is strange too, "ck cao y sako dan dan?" Huh? lol, weird.

Before making one too many judgment calls on names.. I did want to throw out that in Chinese, one of the most common method of making nicknames is to simply repeat one word of their name. For example, instead of the casual form of Rob from Robert, Ting Ting could be the nickname version of Lee, Xiao Ting (random name made up for example purposes).

In other words, one word repeated twice does not so much indicate the presence of bots, but a cultural/linguistic characteristic.

I want to quote this for emphasis because having the same or close name does not mean they are bots. There have been many times where people make the same characters and with a close name just to have fun.

Come on, just realize these are 4 identical monks with the same names... all in the same group ? They even have the same skin...

EDIT : I had a peek at the original screenshot removed because of policy... All monks names where identical the difference was the 1 2 3 4 after their name. They had the EXACT same skin also.

You ought to know that the orignal picture showed 4 clones of monk with the same name, appart from a number at the end of it... As stated, all in the same group also ? And apparently not doing anything in the mission... I don't buy 4 monk with the same skin/name being non-bots.

BTW, impressive screenies Aejorii

If what you say is true, those bots are really effective. Ban! Ban! Ban!

How do you expect the game to do that? Take your pulse? Random "type the letters in this image into this box" checks?

Maybe everyone should also be aware that people running botting operations can and do read Guildwarsguru too.

Think about it;

Arenanet is the driving force behind these bot makers and sweatshop lords who make real money on Ebay and other places from game gold and high end items.

They have deliberately severely neutered soloing in upper level areas making it extremely difficult for the average player to get large quantities of gold for high end armor and weapons. If these players want to compete especially in PVP areas they really need to have high end stuff, 15k armor, runes etc... So thanks to Arenanet's obsessive jihad against soloing these average players have only one alternative and that is to buy gold and or high end items for real cash and this drives the bot and sweatshop industry.

The more they nerft the higher the real cash price for gold and high end items become and the higher the profits for the bot and sweatshop industry.

Kind of make you wonder if some of those gold for cash sellers is not Arenanet making a nice profit off their nerfts don't it?

What!? 15k armor to be competitive in PvP? Even though your whole argument was blown here, I'll continue.

Weapons. You can get high end weapons from a collector, at no cost to yourself if you go kill for the materials. Most weapon mods are really cheap, and if you think you desperately need +30hp instead of +29hp or even +28hp to stay competitive, you're desperately mistaken. Most runes are okay in price as well, I've never needed to farm to get any of them. Try playing the game instead of spending all your gold getting run around the map.

I'm sure you also know that runes and weapon mods, also including skills, can be easily unlocked with faction. I'm also sure that you know, when creating a PvP character, you can pick the best armor and weapons available and add whatever mods you want to them. Absolutely no need to buy things with real money unless you really suck.

Yeah, I'm sure with a million copies of the game sold, and a new campaign coming out next month, that a few thousand dollars from selling in-game gold is a "nice profit", or even worth it.

Aejorii where was that first picture taken and how long ago? Just asking cause that is the exact armor, armor color, face, skin color, hair, and mask type of my main char. <---- that pic is a couple months old.

Edit: Just asking cause I don't remember seeing that, and my picture (whether or not its me, still my picture) is unsettling there.

why dont they just deal with the bot makers like sony (i think it was) did by opening up their own, LEGAL site for players to trade in game items and gold?

rather than nerfing the game, simply take the game away fro the botters by taking the NEED to buy via e-buy....simply log in (you would have to regester and maybe pay a small one time or one yearly fee) and brouse the pages of players that had posted their items....

might need a bagage handler in game, but hey, so long as all you needed to do was drop the item in, or take out the cash/item you last got/swapped..it shouldnt take too much...(probably less database stuff than a in game *running realtime* auction house.....)

I belive the poster is reffereing to the fact that if you arent wearing 15k or better in anyof the PVP arenas your seen as a noob thats about it(And that is about the truth of it) .
This isnt a thread arguing over whether one needs large amounts of gold, that is a different argument and has no place in this thread, but theres always someone that has to bring it up, you DO NOT NEED GOLD FOR GW's, bla bla bla, collectors, bla, bla, bla, factions unlocking bla bla bla...........
Try to stick with the jist of the post.

Hahahaha,a few thousand dollars, have you checked Ebay lateley buddy, try approching hundreds of thousands and you might be a little more in the ballpark, and if you think everyone that ever worked for a gaming company is above this type of thing then you are just too naive for words.

followed the link above and found this little do-hicky:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Guild-Wars-Drokn...cmd ZViewItem

$17.99 :O and especially when the 100k package was $7.99 which could get you to the forge, a set of the armour and have 60% or more of it left

But anyway, perhaps the triads have branched out into online game farming?

the warrior leader dude even looks like a nasty sweatshop owner from behind

That is distinct from being competitive. In fact, if they think you're a total "noob", then that might provide you with an advantage against your enemies who might just be underestimating you. People who judge others by their armor aren't too bright to begin with, though.

If you wanted this to just be a worthless "OMG STUPD BOTS I HAT THEM!!11" topic, then it is off-topic and I apologize.

However, his claims were that bots are an unfavorable, but needed, role. I felt that disproving his claims that bots are needed makes them seem even more despicable, and is thus showing that "bots suk balls" (as you so eloquently put your idea of an on-topic discussion) more efficiently.

I admit to not checking Ebay for Guild Wars gold lately, because I'm not interested in buying any, and I'm not obsessed with the fact that people might be buying it. It's true that someone working for a game company could do something like this, especially in secret and for personal profit. But to say that a company of this magnitude would decide to make the decision to sell in-game gold on Ebay, which their EULA forbids, under the guise of a different person or group is unrealistic. If you think that a company doing this is a likely occurance... then you are just too naive for words.

I didn't see the original picture but from the replies I understand that the names were something like this:
Somename1
Somename2
Somename3
or something like that.

Well, a few years ago some hardcore clans got all their members to use the same name (other games).
For example, you'd have the Pongs:
Pong1
Pong2
Pong3
Pong4

They were known only as pong and they were usually very good players too.
"omfg, the pongs are here! run!!"

I remember people like pongs, milks, ______ (the underscores), G.R.U.N.Ts, etc...

Maybe this guy was the leader of a guild like that?

Something comparable to this are teams which use special names like:
Left Nut
Right Nut
or
Fanta, Cola, Pepsi...

So it could have just been a guy helping 4 other guys do goofy things
